Pehli Kiran Schools takes vulnerable children off the streets, and into schools, providing them with opportunities to learn and grow, and to be kids once again.

About Us

OUR MISSION

Provide education and livelihood opportunities to marginalized, street children in Pakistan, especially girls, from the poorest, unserved informal squatter settlements, to become productive members of society.

OUR VISION

Access to quality education for every child in Pakistan.

About Us

Since 1995, Pehli Kiran Schools (PKS) have been bringing a ray of hope into the lives of out-of-school, street children, especially girls, through free and quality education. Our belief in every child’s right to education led to our target niche - focus on communities no one else was serving: excluded, marginalized, urban squatter settlements (katchi abadis) where no child attended school. These transient communities comprise mostly urban migrants, on the move, in search of livelihoods. The unique features of the PKS model, which respond to the specific needs of these communities, set us apart from other initiatives: high-quality academics, strong co-curricular programs, flexible operations, and an innovative mobile infrastructure that moves with communities when evicted. PKS packages these distinctive features into one of the lowest-cost education delivery models in Pakistan, ensuring the highest return on every donated penny. For over two decades, the Pehli Kiran Schools, an initiative of Jamshed Akhtar Qureshi Education Trust (JAQ), have been helping underprivileged children be kids again, learn and grow, and dream of a better future. Largely through individual philanthropy, some CSR support, and crowd-funding, we raise funds for children who rightfully deserve the opportunity of a brighter tomorrow.
